  • The Wobbles

If anyone happens to have read my angsty little grumble the other day about how much I have ahead of me to do, and was a bit worried or was thinking it unfair that I had so much to do ‘by myself’ – well DONT!! We all have days now and then when we feel overwhelmed – days when we feel a little wobbly… Whether it’s because its an overcast day, we’re ‘hormonal’, we’ve had a shit day at work, or maybe its just because the cat puked on your favorite pair of pants(!!) – we all get to feeling that way sometime or other… I do however want to…

  • A lil overwhelmed..

Over the last couple of weeks I have been slowly decluttering, selling off stuff, cleaning out things, donating stuff and throwing away stuff; all in an effort to try and make this business of ‘downsizing’ a bit easier bit. It’s all a bit overwhelming sometimes, and I don’t think the enormity of the job at hand has really fully been thought about, by my DW… I’m the ‘homemaker’ in this team, and whilst I bring in small bikkies, my DW is definitely the major ‘breadwinner’. As such, that means that the majority of the gardening, shopping, cleaning, packing and culling of our current home, and the making of our new…

  • Sign on the Line!

Today is THE day. Its CONTRACT day!!! Finalllllly, after what feels like months of waiting, the Contract for our Farm has now been signed by all parties. Wheeeheeeee!!!! As of 9am, the sellers have signed, and we are on our merry way to getting this unconditional, and settled. (or as our American friends would say: “we are in escrow“) By this time next month, we should be done and dusted and have started the exciting and slightly daunting journey, of turning the shed into our next home. WE CANT WAIT!!!!

  • A Slow Crawl.

As you’ve read, it started back in about April, when we went and had a proper look at the block, did a whole lot of talking and working-out stuff, and some more talking – and then finally made an offer. We were nervous about making an offer, as we pretty much had no savings left from the last few years of having had various kids come back home – so we didn’t want to make an offer, then find out we couldn’t get a loan! It would have been rather embarrassing, especially for a real estate agent, and when the sellers are ‘well known about town’ types… 😐 Anyways –…

  • And so it began!

Welcome to the inception of Strigidae Farm. Firstly, a little bit of background. We are Suzey & Sarah – married, Mummas of 7, working outside the home as a Sales Executive and a Nurse/Manager, we’re Grand-Mummas to 3 and we are in our 50s! When we first moved up to the Tablelands, we wanted to get some land but at the time five of our seven kids were still in school, and we decided that for the time being, we needed to be living in town so that the kids would have easy access to schools, part time jobs, activities and their friends. Well, its now twelve years that we’ve…

  • Counting the beat….

What a busy few months it has been. We had three of the kids living with us since September, but they’ve finally rented their own 3brm place together, all have jobs, and are back to making their way in the world independently once again. Another son has come home to stay since then (we had almost a whole two weeks with the house to ourselves lol), and our daughter,  grandson and their 8wk old puppy Harry have been for a visit too – so we’re feeling a bit overloaded with “visitor-stress” at the moment. Being a parent doesn’t ever end, no matter how old you are, or how old your…

  • How to get rid of unwanted ‘friends’….

We spent a lot of time discussing just this question, tonight. And it’s (unfortunately) not the first time we’ve had this discussion, about this particular couple – but it can be a difficult one! Difficult because, while one party is trying to sever the ‘friendship’, the other is trying to forge on with it. We are the couple who are trying to do the severing… And it’s been difficult. You have to try and tread lightly. Try and be kind. Try not to hurt the others feelings. But there comes a point, when you have to wonder, just how brutal you need to be for that other couple to understand,…

  • Top 50!!!

Well, a lot has gone on of late – and yes – we’ve been poor with blogging, but hopefully we’ll catch up at some point… BUT – to get back to the point – TOP 50!!! What this top 50 business we hear you ask??!!??? Wellllll…. In the “Top 50” is the ranking for a certain Real Estate Sales Executive we all know :))) And #1 ranking for the whole of the Tablelands!! The official invitation arrived in the mail last week, (all black and gold and embossed and very swish!) so in about a fortnight we jet off to Brisbane for a few day – to schmooze amongst the…
