• Waste Management

If you don’t deal with us on a regular basis, there’s something you probably don’t know….we’re carb-whores. Serious carb-whores…! We have yet to meet a pasta or a potato that we didn’t like – but our biggest downfall without any shadow of a doubt – is bread. It doesn’t matter if it’s a mass-produced sliced white, or a hearty mixed-grain roll from a bespoke back-alley bakery – we’re ready, willing and able to tuck in and scoff it down. Of course with this whole bread-whore proclivity, comes the obvious problem of our waste-lines. And no, we don’t mean waist-lines, ours have gone waaaaay past waist, and moved right on to…

  • A whirl of events.

Its been a busy fortnight, with a lot of small jobs being done – and a couple of big ones started – but its also been quite hot over the last 2 weeks – so that tends to put a bit of a dampener on us getting too much done. Especially when it comes to insulating, or jobs that need to be done out in the yard – if its in full sun. We try to save these jobs for days when its overcast, or try and get to them early or late in the day – when the bite has gone out of the sun, the cool is around,…

  • Some cool days

We’ve had a couple of beautiful cool blustery days, and cold evenings, which we know is going to give way soon, only to be followed next week by some fairly serious hot summer weather –  but right this minute, the late afternoon shafts of sunlight are coming down through the trees spot-lighting the thick still-to-be-mown grass, turning the deep, rich greens to emerald brilliance; and the shadows cast by the tall gums along the fence line are lengthening, as the day slowly draws to a close… There is a brick new-build going up a couple of paddocks over, and it has risen from the ground with such astonishing speed, that…

  • Get a puppy she said…

” Get a puppy she said…it’ll be fun, she said…” Those word resonate around our home with great frequency at the moment. Probably about 30 times a day it escapes the lips – sometimes through gritted teeth – of one or the other of us… If we ever decide to think about getting another puppy – please – someone – remind us that we’re too old for this shit…!!! Digby the Farm dog is 16wks old now, and we’ve had him for just over 4wks. He’s a rescue dog, and was one of a litter of 15 apparently, that was surrendered to the local rehoming/rescue service. He’s definitely one feisty…

  • A lil frustrating

Its a hot afternoon, and the weatherman keeps threatening/promising that storms are on their way – and for the last few days there have been beautiful thick bulbous black clouds rolling in from the south, but apart from a brief mid-afternoon downpour on Saturday – which just further added to the humidity – and there was another on Monday evening; but other than that, we’ve yet to see very much come of it… We’ve had a bit of frustrating weekend. The ride-on has again thrown a tizz, and the blades aren’t rotating. We think that maybe the fan belt has finally stretched out that bit too far, but being that…

  • Silver Linings & Love

What we’ve managed to accomplish this week: (other than those pesky ‘paid’ jobs that one is required to attend to…lol) The timber for the next row of the kitchen shelves has been acquired, and is ready to slot into place. We’ve also found a new cheaper source for the termiflor that we’ll be using for the internal walls – and they’ve quoted that they’ll only charge us $15 delivery! Wheeheee! The shed has arrived ready for us to build it, so that we can get the ride-on mower out from where our bed is waiting to go. Well – that’s not strictly accurate. Box 2 of 2 has arrived. Where…

  • Power & Our Passions

We’ve got the kitchen to the point where we are just about ready to put the benchtops on and have now ‘measured twice and cut once’ the timber (chisseling doesnt count thankyou very much!) so now the first row of shelving is installed and stained right the way along the full length of the kitchen wall. We’ve built another raised garden bed – this one is quite a large one, that will be used as a ’round-about’ of sorts, in our front yard, and will have a huge water-gum planted in it – whom we’ve named Horatio – as well as some flowers and herbs. We’ve also finally got the…

  • Unseen Changes

Its been a bit of a slack week of blogging – not because we’ve been lying on the couch eating bonbons – but because we’ve been caught up with a myriad of things… Last weekend, we spent most of our time out at the Farm, and did a lot – but it was one of those times when what we did wasn’t making much of a visible change about the place. Suzey was working on the kitchen – Sarah was working out in the yard. The kitchen was a time of: one step forward and two steps back last weekend – with us deciding that the way we had the…

  • Busy, busy, busy!

A bit of a delayed update – ‘cos we’ve been busy lil (ok – maybe not so lil!) Wimmin over the last few days or so – our apologies! So it was out to the block bright and early on Friday, to open the shed for Justin (by now you should know he’s the electrician!) so he could fiddle about with lights, power-boards and such – and attend to the arrival of the pole. It was a bit of an exciting drive in from the gate to the shed, as the ground was pretty sloppy from the rain – and thus most of the drive in was spent fishtailing from one…
