A whirl of events.
Its been a busy fortnight, with a lot of small jobs being done – and a couple of big ones started – but its also been quite hot over the last 2 weeks – so that tends to put a bit of a dampener on us getting too much done.
Especially when it comes to insulating, or jobs that need to be done out in the yard – if its in full sun.
We try to save these jobs for days when its overcast, or try and get to them early or late in the day – when the bite has gone out of the sun, the cool is around, or theres shade to be found.
We work hard – whether its at our jobs, or at what we do outside of that time – and one of the things we have agreed upon over the years – as we’ve got ‘older’ – is that working in super-hot conditions, is just not productive in the long run.
Our bodies tend to bail up, and not behave nicely – so its a bit of a false economy (for us) to work in the heat.
Sure, we might get the initial job done, but will then crash into a heap and get nothing done – because of a combination of overheating, dehydration and exhaustion…
(yes – even when we take frequent break and drink loads of water!)
But we’re pretty sure you’re just itching for a Digby update – before you get a Farm update 😀
Sooooo – this week, Digbys supplemental menu has consisted of:
– 1 leather bound annual organiser that has all of the necessary info needed to function at work and home, contained therein.
– 1 laptop cord
– his brand new unused 2 day old harness that we’d had to buy ‘cos he outgrew the old one between one saturday and the next!
– a crossword book,
– 2 rolls of toilet paper (even though we are now hiding them!),
– 6 shoes – after he managed to get into the shoe storer – all of them different of course!
– and a multitude of other small items that don’t really warrant mentioning…
He’s also been back to the vet to have his lepto booster – and he’s put on about 5kg in 4ish weeks – he still looks like he could do with a good feed though!
The rate at which is he growing is still freaking us out. A LOT.
Last week we were horrified when he took a flying leap whilst doing laps around the dining room table, and he finally realized that he could actually get on the couch without being lifted up.
We’ve had him conned for ages that it wasn’t something he could manage – then BOOM! – there he was – smack bang sprawled out on the couch, flopped spreadeagled over the top of us both.
From the look on his face – we’re pretty sure he was even more stunned than we were – especially as we’d been waiting for the eventuality…
It was one of those very funny but ‘ohhh shit nooo’ moments!
About 4 days later – he took another flying leap during one of his self-directed exercise laps throughout the house – and landed smack bang on top of Molly.
Molly happened to be happily asleep in the middle of our king-sized bed at the time…
We knew that this was going to happen too – eventually – but had been hoping for two reasons – that it would be a looooong time before he worked this one out
1: our bed is quite high, and he can’t get the same run-up to get onto it as he can with the couch, due to him having to come around a corner from the hallway, and
2: its been the only place that Molly can go take herself for a time-out from Diggy…
Yep – Molly is still far less than delighted about his presence.
Every time we come back from having taken him somewhere in the car, you can see the look of sheer disgust cross her face, as he comes back in the front door with us.
You can almost hear her saying: “are you f*cking serious…? You bought him back AGAIN?
Oh, we’ve also had to get him a new bed.
He outgrew the other one.
Who woulda thought huh!?!
So we went to the stock-feed place, and got him one of those nice big metal ones that sits off the ground, a bit like a hammock with 4 legs.
So far he’s managed not to eat it, and actually seems to be sleeping better as well!
Tho of course – as true as our luck runs, said bed will not fit in the current design of ‘Palais de Poochi’ – so that has required a bit of a redraft….
In an incredibly exciting event, that has most definitely helped with turning our little shed into a shome, Michael & his sidekick Eric have spent a couple of days working for us, putting in two windows and two sliding doors.
All of the doors and windows that we’ve used so far have been recycled 🙂
They’ll need to come back to do some finishing off bits, and hopefully by then we will have sourced the last of the windows that we want put in; but we particularly want to get the bathroom window in as soon as we can, as that will bring in a lot of the cross breeze.
We’ve also very happily stayed at Strigidae overnight the last two Saturdays.
Both times we’ve taken Digby out with us to give the others a bit of a break, and he has been soooooo well behaved throughout the night.
Didn’t even try sneaking on to the bed in the middle of the night – which would have been super easy for him, as we are currently sleeping on the floor. lol
He won a lot of brownie points for that lil achievement!
Last week we also had John, our smurf in shining KingGees come in with his trusty sidekick Diesel, who is a lovely 8yr old German Shepard.
John and Diesel got stuck in to the back fenceline for us, and its now looking thoroughly fabulous.
(You might have seen a shoutout about that lil event, on our fb page).
Its also been mowing time again, it comes around so very quickly in this weather, so that got mostly done today, and its just the house yard that needs doing now.
The driveway also got a cleanup with the brush-cutter today, but still needs some more of the debris cleaned up, and the final stretch can’t be done until the neighbours dog gets tied up for a hour or so – as he freaks out at the cutter, and tries to bite its blades.
We figure it would not be good for neighbourly relations if we accidentally sliced his head off – so we will wait until we can catch them, and ask them to pop him on the chain for a bit 🙂
We’ve also got all four walls of the shed up!
Wheeheeee!!! (Pics of that will come once the roof is on!)
Ok, its taken a bit of time – more time that it probably should have, but in our defence, the shed directions are written in hieroglyphics, we also can’t get a signal for the internet unless we stand out in the middle of the paddock, so its a bit hard to google directions – annnnd – did we mention – ITS BEEN HOT!
And in the final ‘event’ for the fortnight so far, we’ve had a delivery of 6m long posts for the big veggie garden, and the same delivery also contained 10 sheets of Termiflor – which we are using for lining the walls.
Probably the thing we are most having difficulty with at the moment, is our ever-changing ‘what we should do next’ list.
We really need to add an ‘organiser’ to our team of supporters. lol
It feels like its alllll happening at the moment – and that we’re just trying to keep up with it all…
But thats certainly not a bad thing!
This is brilliant. I’m now in two minds to show Elaine your blog, as the next thing you know, we’ll be selling our house!
Thanks Sharon :))
There’s a spare block next to us for sales, cheap as chips – come be communal with us!! :)) lol
