Mid-March Already!
Good grief – we’re at the middle of March already! Not quite sure how that happened… The good thing about that though – is that its the start of Autumn, which should mean that the cooler weather will be on its way in a while, and thats a much happier time to be in the garden, with the plants liking it a whole a lot more – instead of being baked to within an inch of their lives… The bedroom feature wall has finally been finished as we told you – but still needs some tizzy-ing up, along with the installation of our big kingsized bed from the house in…

Dehydrating
Did some dehydrating yesterday and overnight – and this is what we got out of it. This is 2kg of mixed vegies, and about 400g of mushrooms. YUM YUM YUM!

Done and Undone
So after cracking it a number of times to the guy who has supposed to be doing the slashing for the last month – he finally turned up the other day. The very same day that it once again started raining, after 5 days of sunshine!! And surprise surprise – he left it until almost lunchtime on the day the rain recommenced; and the ground was once again too wet to get the tractor in. Aggghhh!!! We think he’d probably worked out that we were at the end of our tethers with him by this point though – and he wisely chose to tackle it on his ride-on instead –…

The rains are ‘ere…STILL!
Another fortnight has some how passed by, and its little things again that have been accomplished – the types of things you don’t really see – but that need to get done…like decluttering, or packing boxes, or moving things to the Farm. We managed to score about 30m of drainage channels off a local sell/swap/buy site, which we got for super cheap. Bringing them home in the back of the truck was a bit of an adventure – and probably not strictly legal. lol We’re still watching the lay of the land – to determine where it will be best to lay them. We finally gave in, and decided a…

Bit of a crap-fest.
This week it’s been a bit of a crappy week. The week had started well, with four of the big new garden beds being assembled in the rain, but we ran out of screws before we got the rest done, and didn’t want to risk extra trips on the already mushy driveway to go into town to get more, in case we couldn’t make it back in or out – so that came to a disappointing halt. We’ve had another week of almost continuous rain, and of course work; but a seriously dodgy hip threw a spanner in the works at 3am – early on Thursday morning – that ended…

Rain, Rain and More Rain!
We’ve had a LOT of rain over the last few weeks, but especially so over the last couple of days, and whilst its overcast today, so far its held off – so its time to get out and do some cleanup. We always knew we were going to have a bit of an issue with drainage – as to the naked eye, its such a very flat piece of land – but we’ve continued to hope that we can live here for at least a year, to get a full feel for how the land works, over that time – and just do the bare minimum as far as sorting…

2017 has arrived!
Well here we are… 2017! Happy New Year Folks!! We haven’t had any more mice caught, and also haven’t seen any – so either the rest of the family has got the memo not to come visiting us, or they’ve moved on to more productive pastures. And – only two toads have ventured close enough over the last fortnight, to meet their demise. We have however, had an evening invasion of small brown hard-shelled beetles. There were positively zillions of them inside by the time we were ready for bed, which had obviously been attracted by the light, and once we settled into bed, they spent the next hour bashing…

Murder, a Medicated Mumma, and More…!
We gave ourselves a bit of a treat last week, and stayed at the Farm three nights. Its only five minutes from both of our work, but the difference in how we feel once we’ve been home here at the FarmHouse for just a short while, is immense. Pretty sure if we bothered to check our blood-pressure, you’d be able to actually watch it going down… We’re slowly working up to spending longer and longer stays at the Farm, as our obvious aim is to be moving there. (duh!) We’ll be there a LOT over the coming weeks, as we’ve both taken some time off. This is the time of…

Another busy fortnight.
This fortnight, fencing started on the western boundary at Strigidae. In swooped our ninja-smurf in shining KingGees and his trusty steed (dog) Diesel once again – and the business of pulling down the old fence began. Some of it just needed to be looked at, and it fell to the ground, however other bits took a bit more effort – but with the assistance of a snatch strap, a ute, and some creative driving, it didn’t take our lil ninja long to have it all done and dusted. Pretty impressive actually…! One thing we did learn that day though: when you’re working in mid-thirties heat and sun, do not drink a…

Walls, Horatios home, the Internet and a Mouse.
We decided to take all the dogs out to the farm last week. (sorry – forgot to take photos!) We’ve taken each of them singularly, and take Digby out most times – as he just loves playing up and down the fence line, with the dog from next door. They just run and run, and it’s brilliant exercise for them both. But we decided it was time we got brave and just did it! For the most part it went fairly well, but of course molly had to have a barkathon breakdown at one point, so it’s going to take some definite supervision and boundary setting for just which behaviour…
