• Yo Peoples!

Helllooooo Mofos!! Guess which good lookin’ Kiwi fella is showing his Mrs a good time tonight? Yep ME! That’s right folks! Me and the Mrs are gonna start this holiday off with a nice little bit of horizontal aerobics on this lovely plush bed here. Man oh man it’s huge!! Then we’ll have some dinner, and get a good few hours of sleep in before it’s time to front up at the airport. Hoping to con the Parentals into taking us for lunch by the sea tomorrow, so I might get to shoot you off a quick cheeky photo if I managed to win ‘em over!! Wish me luck –…

  • Countdown

. Its only a few short days until we head off for a couple of weeks of much needed leave. Its been two years since we last ventured away from home, and Life has certainly change a lot from what it looked like back then…

  • Hive of Activity

. Its a hive of activity here this morning, with bags being dragged out of the shed where they have been packed away for the the last 18 months or so. Lots of going-through, separating, tossing/donating and washing to be done. Larry, Lucy and Katie are super-excited to be over-seeing all this activity, because they know that it won’t be long until all of us are heading ‘home‘ for the first time in two years, for a well-earnt break and some down-time… As many of you may recall, Larry does have a habit of posting on the website from time to time when we’re away and whenever he can sneak…

  • March Monsoons

As happens in the monsoon season — its been raining. And raining and raining and raining!! Its definitely been a proper wet season so far this year, and one that we have needed, as despite how wet it was this time last year, we really didn’t end up getting our ‘usual’ amount, for where we live. We heard on the radio the other evening that Darwin has had over a meter and a half of rain already!! The front wheels (literally) fell off the mower a couple of weeks ago – yes the new one (!!) – and so it has been into the shop for repairs. It seemed to…

  • Not feelin’ the ‘love’!

. There hasn’t been much ‘accomplished’ in the last couple of weeks. Firstly we had about 10 days of much needed rain, which of course made the paddocks super-sloppy, and meant that no mowing could be done during that time, so the grass almost got away from us again – but we managed to get it mown in fits and spurts during a couple of dryish days, when the storms didn’t come in until the afternoon. After the rains, came the insane heatwave that most of Eastern Aus has been experiencing – and with the energy-sapping heat – it meant that just making it through the routine mundane chores that…

  • Helens Story Pt1

. EDITORS NOTE: Our Sister Helen, and four more of our Family (Joe, Brodie and their babies) recently survived a severe tropic storm, that was then followed by the hell that was Hurricane Irma – which was then quickly followed by 2 more Hurricanes, Jose and Maria. This is Part 1 of her story… 6 January 2018 To family, friends, & peeps who have watched out for me and helped me out: Hiya folks It’s 4 months to the day since Irma gave us a bit of a lashing and sent us scurrying for shelter, then on to other climes. The story has been long, starting of course a month…

  • A New Year!

. Annnnnnd here we are in 2018!! Didn’t that last year just zoom by with ridiculous speed?!? Thats one of those things about getting older – the years definitely feel shorter… Its been a hot dry few weeks, and the gardens – and Us – are definitely feeling the unrelenting heat, which we still have a few months left of. Its been a ‘quiet’ start to the cyclone-season – touchwood! – with only WA having had one small one blow through so far. We’ve planted out a couple of climbers along the fence lines in the last few days – including some passionfruit vines that we grew from seed, from…

  • Tizzied up

. Firstly – thank you for your patience while the website was having a bit of an overhaul – its appreciated.   Secondly – you can now find all the pre Strigidae Farm posts (most of them are about our NZ travels) also on this website, so you won’t be having to keep up with both of them. If you haven’t already had a read them, you can start HERE, and there is a link at the end of each post, just above the section where you can leave comments. (see below) Speaking of comments – we’d really love it if you let us know what you think of a…

  • Guest Post #3

. This guest post is a little different to our previous ones. Its a pictorial! A couple of weeks ago, we went to a christmas party held in our street – a general get-together for the neighbours in our little Community. Our neighbours M&M and their two kids also came to the party, but they had been to another event earlier in the day, and by the time they all arrived, their two kids had pretty much had enough socialising for one day, and weren’t feeling terribly ‘chipper’. Their son, after wandering about and saying hi to some of the other kids, happily settled down on a vacant lounge swing,…
