When the stars align.
It’s been a wonderfully great day already – and it’s only just past lunchtime!! We had an appointment with our electrician Justin today, who was coming out to officially meet us, and get a proper look around the farm. He also bought Danny with him, who is our plumber. We spent some time wandering around and deciding what would go where, and when. We’re now definitely booked in for them to start as soon as the power pole arrives – which will probably be in about a fortnight. They’re both really nice guys, and had some great and muchly appreciated info and advice for us. BUT – there were other…

A lil overwhelmed..
Over the last couple of weeks I have been slowly decluttering, selling off stuff, cleaning out things, donating stuff and throwing away stuff; all in an effort to try and make this business of ‘downsizing’ a bit easier bit. It’s all a bit overwhelming sometimes, and I don’t think the enormity of the job at hand has really fully been thought about, by my DW… I’m the ‘homemaker’ in this team, and whilst I bring in small bikkies, my DW is definitely the major ‘breadwinner’. As such, that means that the majority of the gardening, shopping, cleaning, packing and culling of our current home, and the making of our new…

Well THATS settled then!
Yep – today’s the day! We’ve just got a text message from the bank, to say that the Farm has settled – it’s now well and truly OURS!! And in another piece of amazeballz news – we’ve also been advised by email that our water meter went in today!! It’s all happening now, and after it feeling like things were crawling along at snails pace for so long, it now feels like they’re steam-rolling along!! Whoohoo! Hang on for the ride folks – we’re ON OUR WAYYY!!!

Contractors & a Shopping Trip.
We’ve chosen and booked our Electrician Justin to connect the mains power; we’ve booked our Plumber to put in the lines for mains water at the same time as Justin does his electrical work, we’ve been to Council and applied for our rural number and water connection; and all being well – settlement will be on Thursday! Also – we went down to Cairns for the day on Sunday, and did the Masters & Bunnings trawl for about 4 hours. Such fun shops to go and play in, and dream about all the things one would get, if dollars weren’t an issue lol. We did end up getting some useful…

Brokers, Cleaning and a Container.
We went into the Brokers office on Thursday afternoon and signed all the docs that we needed to for the Farm, so that was a pretty momentous moment in time! We’ve also already started packing up stuff that we wont need for the next 6-12 months, so that once the shipping container arrives, we can get that all packed away in the back. We also went out to the Farm on Friday, and took our daughter-in-law out to have a look. She was suitably excited, and loved the place, so that made us feel pretty darn good and proud. We went out again Sunday, and took our sister/sister-in-law (who is…

Official News
ITS OFFICIAL!!!! The call finalllllllllly came through today – our finance has officially been approved!!! ~~~biiiiiiiiiiig sigh of relief~~~ We’ve both been holding our breath, and both had moments of being scared that something would go wrong, but finally we have got not only the call, but the letter to say its all ‘official’. Whilst it feels like months and months and months we’ve been hanging by a thread – the reality is, that we only signed the contract 12 days ago – so the actual process, once it finally got started properly, has been very very quick. (even if it doesn’t feel like that to us!) We’ve been really…

Waiting is HARD!
This week has been a week of getting quotes back from various electrical suppliers, checking them against each other – and now haggling with our preferred supplier, to get to price that we are comfortable with and can afford, but that it’s still very much fair to the contractor. We’ve also had a preliminary quote back from our preferred septic installer, but this will be dependant upon upcoming soil tests. We’re also waiting for the final approval from the bank, which then makes the contract unconditional – and whilst we are full of confidence – we can’t help but have the occasional wobble, when we wonder if after investing so…

Sign on the Line!
Today is THE day. Its CONTRACT day!!! Finalllllly, after what feels like months of waiting, the Contract for our Farm has now been signed by all parties. Wheeeheeeee!!!! As of 9am, the sellers have signed, and we are on our merry way to getting this unconditional, and settled. (or as our American friends would say: “we are in escrow“) By this time next month, we should be done and dusted and have started the exciting and slightly daunting journey, of turning the shed into our next home. WE CANT WAIT!!!!

Our First Working Bee.
A rare Sunday of no appointments, so today we popped on some work clothes, grabbed the garden gloves, mower, whipper-snipper and packed up our thermos, some coffee, a few munchies, some milk, and our cups, and stuck it all in the ute (whos name is Zane incase you’re wondering!) and headed out to ‘the Farm’ do a bit of a cleanup. We’ve had quite a bit of steady rain over the last few weeks, and we wanted to check out whether or not any of it was coming in under any of the door of the shed. While we have been away on holidays the grass has grown a lot, as…

4000 Housing Ideas
Our shed (okay, so its not actually ours yet, but that’s irrelevant. Conceive, Believe, Receive!!) – anyway – on with the show! As I was saying….Our Shed used to be the machinery shed for the house that’s now on a separate block. Its a huge [to us] 7.5m x 9m colorbond shed, with 3 roller doors at the front, and an access door at the side. Inside is just one big open expanse, however a wobbly mezzanine of sorts has previously been put in for storage, which is about 2m x 2m. At the moment, the shed is about 1/3 full of ‘stuff‘ that belongs to the previous owners,…
